Well folks it’s coming down to the wire!
Oct. 18th is the Greenville, SC WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S
I’ve jumped in a lake on a cold Sunday morning in my pajamas to try to get you to donate. If you haven’t seen this you can see it here.
I’ve written about my mom’s and my journey every week to convince you to donate…
So now I am down to begging…please don’t make me…it’s not pretty!
So I will just stick to the facts:
5.4 MILLION Americans are living with Alzheimer’s Disease right now!
5.2 MILLION our over the age of 65
200,000 are UNDER the age of 65
There are 15 MILLION unpaid caregivers in the United States
An Alzheimer’s patient can expect to spend $215,000 throughout the course of this disease ($40,000 directly and $ 175,000 indirectly)
PLEASE DONATE TODAY!!!!
Today, I am pulling out the big guns and asking for a special favor. You see my momma, at 78 years young, is going to walk and while we have raised $195 none has gone specifically under her name. For every $100 we raise we get a WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S T-shirt. My mom is a T-shirt collector and nothing would give her greater pleasure (except maybe blueberry pop tarts) than to have one of these T-shirts so today I am asking you to go to:
This is our team page, it lists the members of our team and I would love to see mom hit that $100 mark. I would love to see all of us hit that $100 mark but especially for her. Her name is LIZZA and it is right there on our page. Just click her name and donate. PLEASE…OKAY NOW I’M BEGGING!!!!!
Remember to:
Appreciate the good, laugh at the crazy, and deal with the rest.
I love you, momma!
Raising money for our walk here also.
It’s hard and they pick the wrong month I think.
Best of luck in the upcoming walk. I hope it raises enough money to find a cure once and for all!
I do too Robin that would be terrific!
I remember the saying… Go Jump In A Lake. You actually did it. Here is to hoping you rasise lots of money On the walk to end Alzheimers.
I hope our goal is $500 we’re still $305 short as of yesterday!
Maybe you can reach out to a brand to make a donation and get you to your goal? I hope you raise a ton of money and put an end to this terrible disease.
That’s an interesting idea Lois! Don’t have a lot of time left but I’ll see what I can do Thanks for the idea.
I hope you make your goal. I am also a t-shirt collector so I can understand your mom wanting the shirt – though the pop tart would be nice too. Good luck.
Thanks Jennifer! She is famous for her pop tart addiction! She eats a box a day although I try to balance that out with lots of good food but you can’t fix the crave!
Oh, your sweet momma 🙂 Love those pics! But those figures are staggering – WOW. And so many under the age of 65? WOW. I’m so inspired by what you’re doing to make a difference!
Thank you Kristen! It is very important to me. It may not save mom but it maybe it could save me or my daughter or grandchildren or yours you just never know so much more needs to be learned about it!
Good luck with your goal Rena! I will share this today.
Thanks so much Lana and thank you for your donation it meant alot to me to see my friends sticking behind me in this quest!
It is a tough month to ask for donations but ask everyone you know, insurance agents, doctors’ offices personnel even the doctor, pharmacist, grocery checkers and store managers, anyone who has met your Mom and tell them you will post your thanks on your blog read by thousands!
Good luck!!
Some great ideas Haralee. I agree with doing it in October that’s a rotten month to try to fundraise with it also being breast cancer awareness. I have raised this and the fact that they don’t have Pay pal set up either is a big problem something that will be fixed by next year hopefully. I will definitely be asking everyone, waiting from a phone call now from my husband’s headquarters. Thanks for commenting!
I would so love to contribute! It is such a worthwhile cause . . .
Please tell the organizers to put a Paypal option in next time. That’s the only way I can contribute! 🙂 Good luck on your walk. I’ll be thinking of you!
I know! I was just saying that and the fact that they do the walks in October is another biggy! Hopefully these issues will be fixed by next year. I have so many ideas but I am new to the group so we’ll see what happens.
I’ll definitely stay in touch to see what happens for next year!
I know Diane I’m so sorry we couldn’t or actually it wasn’t already made available. I am new to this but hopefully I can get that and the fact that it shouldn’t be held in October across to someone!!!!
Wishing you all the luck on this walk. Hopefully we will find a cure for this horrible disease one day.
That would be awesome Carmen! Thanks for commenting.
Best of luck with all the fundraising! An excellent and personal cause to my heart xx
Thanks Viccy, thanks for your comments.
Let me tweet this and hopefully that will help spread the word. Any amount of money can certainly help.
So true Aimee! Thanks so much any dollar amount would help we are up to $220. Thanks for your help!
I wish you the best luck with your fundraising goals!! You are doing a great job. I do hope your mama gets to wear her shirt.
Thanks Alice it’s not looking good for her so far but maybe it will pick up some. We have a week from this Saturday. Thanks for commenting!
Let me talk to hubby and if he okay’s it i’ll donate it as I lost my grandma to Alzheimer. I hope you raise a lot of money to find a cure.
Okay Becca thank you. Any amount will help $1, $5 doesn’t matter it all helps!
I love walking for a cause. It is a great way to be physically active while helping others.
So true! That was my reasoning to besides being a cause that I fully support!
I know how hard you work for your cause. Although I know you never wanted Alzheimer’s in your life, the cause is lucky to have you.
Thank you Karen! What a nice thing to say. I have something else big coming up after all the walks are through. I’ll be sharing on my blog soon!!!
I really wish I could donate because I love this cause. I wish you the best of luck on your walk and fundraising!
I wish you could to Stefany! I am asking all my Twitter followers for a $1 donation today and that would double my goal! Keep your fingers crossed!
My Grandmother had it as well, I love how involved you are in this cause!
I remember Chrissy and I am so sorry for your loss. I am in the middle of it so I have no choice but to become involved. Maybe someday it will cure one of my grandchildren!!
I empathize. Truly I do. Horrible horrible disease. I lost my Mom due to pneumonia related to the Alzheimer’s.
Thanks Paula that’s awful and I am so sorry. It’s truly awful the pain this one disease can cause!
It’s amazing how many people are living with this disease that are under the age of 65. Enjoy the walk. I hope you reach your financial goals in raising money for this good cause.
Thanks Erica! I have a few tricks up my sleeve yet. We’ll see our goal was $500 we need $280 more!
As long as you don’t say for a cure or komen will come for you! Good luck on the walk and I hope the disease does come to an end.
I am always behind breast cancer awareness I am a woman after all and already having had one breast biopsied I know first hand how important it is. It is unfortunate that our walks fall in the same month but they are both great causes. Alzheimer’s Walk is called WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S
Hope you make that goal! I know you are pushing for it and that’s awesome! {{{HUGS}}} to mom and you! And We’ll see the updates of the finish line because you’re going to do awesome!
Thanks so much Danielle there will be definitely be pictures!!! Count on it for October 20th!!!

Our walk is coming up soon too! Actually, I should probably double check the date on that since I completely forgot to write it down on the calendar.
That’s great Melissa! Hope all goes well with yours and you have a nice sunny day!
It would be awesome to end Alzheimers! I hope this raises lots of money… it’s a terrible disease.

Thanks so much Chene any spreading at all will help so much!!!!
If I hadn’t just donated to my hometown bestie’s mom’s walk, I would help you too. I wish you the best of luck though.
A donation is a donation Liz that’s all that matters bestie HAVE to stick together.
I hope you are able to reach your goal and that your mother reach her 100$ goal so that she can get the t shirt! Sharing this so that others can be made aware of this!
Thanks so much Marielle I appreciate that so much!
Those are some alarming stats. I hope you are able to raise a lot of money and awareness.
Thank you so much there. We have $180 left until we meet our goal!
Hi Rena, I just donated and it looks like your mom has her T Shirt! My father’s mother had Alzheimer’s and I know how difficult it is to care for her, but I also know how much you love her and she loves you for it. Hugs xo Claudia
I just saw that! I was headed to facebook to thank you! What a really sweet thing to do. Yes she will definitely be getting that T-shirt, thanks again so much!
