If you read my post from a couple of weeks ago called “Wellthy, Healthy, and Wise” then you know that I have been working with a new company called Wellthy.com. They are helping me manage momma and my healthcare. As a caregiver, there are just so many things that you have to keep track of that I found myself becoming overwhelmed and missing important appointments.
Recently we found a new family care doctor because we just didn’t like the old one. That means three new appointments to get set up and for me, it ended up requiring several other tests and some new medications for both momma and me. I’ve also recently started new infusion treatments that require me to go to the Infusion center once every two weeks. There is a lot going on and I simply can not keep up with all of it.
Enter Wellthy.com and my personal one-woman dynamo by the name of Dana Pischera! I will admit in the beginning I was very skeptical about using Wellthy.com which is a type of “concierge” to manage all of your healthcare needs. I had been so used to handling everything myself I thought I would balk at turning things over to someone else. Yes, I have control issues…among many, many others!
I went online and filled out my profile which was so much easier than I had anticipated and the very next day I had an email from Dana not only welcoming me to the program but also wanting to set up a phone call. We scheduled a call for the very next day.
We talked on the phone for well over an hour not only about our needs but about everything under the sun. Immediately I felt as if I had made a new friend. We talked not only talked about my current issues but also what I thought I would need for the foreseeable future. I thought I would be getting assistance managing our healthcare and I ended up getting a lot more help than I was even ready to admit that I needed!
I was overwhelmed not only by the healthcare issues that we face, but I was also overwhelmed with life in general. I am with mom 24/7 hours a day and while I am not complaining sometimes I think that it may not so be good for her. I had to face facts that I am a whole busier than I was even a year ago. Between my writing and my business, I am sitting in front of a computer sometimes up to 14 hours a day.
I try every day to stop at 2 pm and then continue doing what I didn’t get finished after she goes to bed so that I can concentrate on her during the late afternoon evening hours when sundowning is at its worst. What this does to me is leave me stressed and over-tired. The other problem with this scenario is that mom is sitting in front of the TV more and more and that is definitely not a good thing. I try to keep her busy, but there are just so many things that she can do.
Enter Dana Pischera! We talked about hiring a part-time caregiver which is something that I’ve resisted simply because mom is physically very healthy, it is only her mind that has issues. When I thought of caregivers I assumed that they were only to take care of health issues which isn’t what we need right now. Dana explained what the term “Companion Caregiver” meant. There are caregivers who serve as a sort of companion for your loved ones. They are available to talk, play games, take them to the market or doctor, or in our case taking momma out to her favorite thrift stores.
We talked about this and she even gave me some ideas on how to approach momma with the idea (which I haven’t done yet), but I am not as worried about it as I was before. Within days Dana has found the perfect candidate for the job! She found a 62-year-old caregiver who will come and take momma out.
I am very excited to see how momma reacts to having a “friend” to have fun with. Living in a new state has caused our world to become very small and I am super happy to know that momma’s circle will be growing even a little bit.
Dana is setting up a phone conversation with the new caregiver and then there will be the face to face meeting before we get started. The great thing about it is I didn’t have to do any of the hard work. She found the caregiver, checked references, did the background check. EVERYTHING! All I have to do is make sure she’s a good fit for our family.
I’ve only just started with Wellthy.com and I’m already seeing huge benefits. I can’t wait to see how much our lives will improve now that we have the amazing Dana and the whole Wellthy.com family to help us!
Appreciate the good, laugh at the crazy, and deal with the rest.
I love you, momma!
*I was given access to this program to facilitate my review, but my experiences are all mine. That means if I don’t like it, or it isn’t useful I’ll tell you likewise if I love it I’ll say that too!
