THIS IS A NEW ERA IN ALZHEIMER’S/DEMENTIA RESEARCH!
Anytime I can bring awareness to Alzheimer’s Research I’m all in. It’s a disease that was thrust upon my family when my mom was diagnosed in 2011. In 2013 we realized it would better for her to come and live with us. We struggled and grieved for everything that we were losing, the future, and next day.
So, I began studying and researching, reaching out to other caregivers, stalking I mean reading other great websites. That is when I started writing about this journey we are taking and sharing the things that I dig up along the way. That’s how TDAC began.
ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE IS FATAL. My mother will die from Alzheimer’s Disease or one of the MANY, MANY complications that come from it. Most days we don’t dwell on this and instead enjoy every second good and bad of whatever time she has left. I feel privileged to be her caregiver, her friend, and her daughter.
A lot of people ask me what the difference is between dementia and Alzheimer’s so here is the answer. Saying that someone has dementia is like saying someone has cancer. It doesn’t tell you what kind it is. Whether it is breast, colon or brain cancer. Dementia is an umbrella for Alzheimer’s Disease, Lewy Body Dementia, Vascular Dementia and also Parkinson’s Disease.
It is the 6TH LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH in the United States. It is the only disease out of the top 10 with NO KNOWN CURE, NO TREATMENT, AND NO PREVENTION! Every 68 seconds another family is crushed by this diagnosis. Think about that for a moment 68 SECONDS!

The Memories You Save Could Be Your Own…
HERE’S THE PROBLEM…The reason that there is no cure, no treatment, and no prevention is because the scientist can’t find people to study. 80% of research studies fail to attract enough participants to ever get off the ground! Researchers may need to speak to 30,000 people just to get 2,000 that may be needed. They study people who suffer from dementia BUT to ever be able to find a cause and a possible cure, THEY NEED YOU!
They need to look at healthy people. Find out about their lifestyles. See what people are or aren’t doing and study these statistics to find out what may be causing this dreadful, deadly disease. They need to know what we’re drinking and eating. Whether or not we smoke, exercise, or things like this. That’s the only way they are ever going to be able to finally put an end to the suffering. TO FINALLY FIND A TREATMENT, CURE OR PREVENTION OF ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE.
This is where you can help out. There is a new initiative by the BANNER ALZHEIMER’S INSTITUTE. They are doing ground breaking research. They are trying to develop a new international standard of care.
This is a collaboration with doctors and groups from all over the world such as the John Hopkin’s Institute, the Alzheimer’s Association, Columbia University, the Cleveland Clinic and many, many others. They need one uniform registry of people who will stand up and be accounted for. People who will say “We’ll Help”. People who will be counted on.
The best part is that it is so EASY! You only have to do one small thing. If you would just go to endalznow.org. On this website, there is a registry. Think about it, you could be part of ending this horrendous disease. You could one day be protecting yourself, your children and your grandchildren.
I am asking that all my readers sign up today. Please they need your help and it is just a small thing. One minute of painless support. For my family and for yours let’s finally find a cure! ENDALZNOW.ORG
I really hope a cure is found soon and it’s great that you’re bringing awareness to it.
Thanks so much Amanda! It is something that I live with on a daily basis!
Kudos to Banner for investing so much into the research that NEEDS to be done. Hope they find a cure fast.
Me to Robin it’s so important to focus on cause and prevention!
No one knows what the future will hold. It’s important to deal with today instead of worrying about what will happen – good for you for realizing that.
It’s a very important thing they are working on. It’s great to see so many working on it together!
This sounds like a worthy endeavor. Alzheimers was the topic of discussion last night at dinner with friends. It touches us all.
I think that is the ONE thing that surprised me the most. How many people really are affected by Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
I am off to sign up. My grandmother lived with Alzheimer Disease for over 10 years before she finally passed away. It’s a horrible, horrible disease. You are doing a wonderful thing by bringing awareness to it and encouraging your readers to take action.
Thank you so much Kristi! It’s for a very good cause and it could help so many people!
I had no idea it was so high on the list of causes of death. I really hope they find a way to help those suffering, it runs in my family and I am all to aware of what you go trough with your loved ones.
I really hope you will consider signing up. I can honestly say that I signed up and haven’t been over run with emails. I received one that’s it. Just to welcome me and gave me some link resources if I needed them. Thank you so much!
You are such a great advocate for everything related to this. I so hope they can get some sort of clue to figuring out the puzzle and ultimately stopping its progression.
Thanks Liz I hope you signed up! It’s so important.
This is fantastic! There’s an entire center here in Central Florida in conjunction with USF dedicated to Alzheimer’s research, thank goodness!
That’s terrific! I hope you consider signing up for the registry!
Information rich post with stats, facts and images. Thank you.
Thank you so much Karen!
Thank you, Rena! All signed up!
Thanks so much Diane!
This is wonderful. When it comes to Alzheimers any type of money, research and discussion helps!
Your so right Aimee!
That’s great! I hope more investors start getting into this. It’s difficult to live with, both the people suffering with it, and those caring for the one suffering. Not easy for anyone
Thanks Melanie. If we don’t start worrying about prevention I’m afraid soon it will be an epidemic!
I have two friends whose fathers are suffering from Alzheimers. It’s such an awful disease and I hope a cure is found – and soon.
Thanks Jaime! I hope everyone signs up for the registry!
My hubbys father was diagnosed with alzheimers last year. I hope they find a cure before my children get into their 50’s!! It scares me to think about it.
That’s what I worry about. I don’t want the cycle to carry on. I don’t want to be a burden to my kids and don’t want them to get it.
This is amazing. I am so happy with the advances in medicine and research.
Thanks so much!
I have to admit I never used to realise alzheimers was a killer I thought it was just losing your memory – oh how I found out different. I hope one day people can cure it and don’t have to live through the awful things it throws at you.
I was the same way Sarah! I thought if I just kept reminding mom it would be okay. I was so wrong.
I hope and pray that treatments are found! I signed up for the registry and tweeted it out!
Thanks so much Lana. I really appreciate it.
This is such an important program. I’m writing about it tomorrow, and I hope that it gets a huge response from the public. We need to learn how to prevent this terrible disease.
That’s terrific Lois. The more awareness brought the better.
So glad that they are continuing to do research. I don’t have anyone that I know that has been affected by the disease, but it’s still in the back of my mind that it can affect me.
It’s a hugely important research project that’s for sure!
Thank you for sharing your story and becoming a champion for this cause.
Thank you so much Melissa!
This is such a terrible disease i hope they find a cure soon. This was a very informative post. Now i know the difference between Dementia and Alzheimers.

Thanks for your comments Amanda.
I am endlessly impressed by you and the good you are doing. I am so sorry this has touched your family..but I am glad that you have created this website for people who have to deal with it and have NO IDEA what they are dealing with. Good on you!
Thank you so much Michelle what a lovely thing to say.

Thank you Chrissy!
Thanks so much for this incredibly well researched post. I’m blown away by the depth of knowledge you have. And kisses to you for kicking ass and taking names for your loved one.
What a wonderful thing to say Shannon! I want to try to avoid the situation that I found myself in. A caregiver with no clue what to do.
Although I’m very sorry this happened to your family, I also have to admit that Alzheimer’s has an amazing advocate in you. I hope and pray there’s a cure in our lifetime.
From your lips to God’s ears Karen. Thank you so much for your comments.
This is something I would love to see a cure for!
Me too!
When hubs grandma was first diagnosed years ago, she went down to Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan to be a part of some clinical studies. She did this for a few years.
Thanks for this informative post. I can’t believe that with so many suffering from alzheimer’s disease, not enough of them want to participate in research. I hope that changes.
I do too Krystal, I do too!
As a LTC nurse, I am very family with Alzheimers. I do all I can to help the cause for treatment and cure.
That’s terrific Stefano I want to thank you so much!
Those stats are indeed frightening. I hope a cure is found soon.
That’s the truth Marcia! I hope so very much.
This is a very informative post. And I love your attitude about being glad to be her caretaker, that’s just downright awesome!
Thank you very much Rosey.
You got to do what you got to do to help your loved ones. I like that you did alot of research to learn more about what you were dealing with. I did the same when my husband was diagnosed with cancer.
Knowledge is definitely power Veronica. Thanks for your comments.
Thank you so much for sharing this. This disease just breaks my heart. My grandmother died from it when I returned from the military. She died the day before Thanksgiving.
I hope you signed up for the registry Danielle it is so important!
I really love the rallying you do. Maybe we’ll live long enough to see a cure!
I had never realized how many people were affected by alzheimers. I’m surprised that there is not that much alzheimers awareness going on in the world based off how many people are affected by it. Also, I had never known the difference between dementia and alzheimers (I knew it wasn’t one and the same though) so thanks for teaching me!
I know a few people in the early stages, and we can see the progression of this. I really hope they find a cure soon!
I’m learning a lot about Alzheimer’s from your site. I’ll have to check out the registry.
Alzheimer’s is such a sad disease to see a loved one go through. A lot more research needs to be done to find a cure and I’m glad people are now realising this. I hope a cure is found sometime soon.
Thank you for creating awareness, lets hope a cure is found soon. I’ve learnt so much from this post.
Wow! So mamy things I didn’t know about this disease :-/ hope a cure is found soon!!!
I’m sorry to hear about your mother but out of the darkness comes a light with you becoming an advocate for finding a cure. Take care and you’re family will be added to my prayers.
This is great! How wonderful 🙂
Great informational and indepth post. My grandfather had the disease and we took care of him at home. There are so many unknown things about the disease.
This is a great and happy news to all who are sufferers of Alzheimer’s and their families. Indeed, it’s fatal and depressing. It’s great to help and be part of the study.
I hope they find a cure for Alzheimers. I guess it’s important to appreciate the time with your mom while keeping hopes high that there will be a proper treatment.
This is such a informative and well written post. I am glad progress is being made in research of such a terrible disease.
great article. my mom has dementia and they haven’t determined if it is alzheimers. it is tough to watch.
I hope they find the cure soon. I wish for the best to all who are suffering from Alzheimers!
my grandma has alzheimer’s. i live on the other side of the country, so i don’t have to see what happens on the day to day.. but i know it’s rough on the family.
My grandma had alziemer and it scares me to think it is genetic.
Great research about Alzheimer’s and Dementia.. Thanks for this post
Such a great cause to be a part of. I hope they find a cure soon.
It’s alarming how many people and families are affected by this. You’re doing a great thing by creating more awareness!
I certainly hope that a cure is found for dementia. I couldn’t imagine having it or a loved one having it.
I really hope they find a cure to this disease. OF all the diseases out there this has to be the saddest when you can’t even remember your loved ones.
I truly didn’t realize that it was the 6th leading cause of death. I am so fearful that it will be hitting my family again because I know there is a genetic element to it.
I had no idea. Thanks for spreading the word!
I knew people in my family that had issues and passed away from Alzheimer’s. Thanks for bringing awareness about this!
Thank you Kiwi! I live with it everyday through mom and bringing more awareness could bring about a cure.
I love this and will be checking this out indeed and sharing with my family along with friends. I was just thinking about how you were all doing just yesterday. Hang in there your stronger than you know. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for bringing awareness to the importance of the study of alzheimers! It’s an issue that is near and dear to my heart.
This is so great because you’re helping a lot of people. You’re doing an awesome job!
This is good news! My grandmother has been showing the signs of early Alzheimer’s for a bit of time now. She might be a little forgetful, but she’s still sharp at times.
I’m always impressed, whenever I stop by this blog and wish you the very best on your journey.
I’ve signed up!
Thanks for this, if I’ve a free time I’ll have sign up for this, because it looks can really help.
