WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S IN GREENVILLE, SC

https://thediaryofanalzheimerscaregiver.com/2014/10/walk-end-alzheimers-greenville-sc/

The WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S in Greenville, SC was a huge success! There were so many people that showed up to walk and show their support. They were young and old, walking in wheelchairs and even in strollers. It was such an amazing thing to witness!

We arrived at 8 a.m. for registration and got our t-shirts. I had ordered matching t-shirts for us with my logo so that is what we wore to walk both the Spartanburg and Greenville walks. The walk started about 9 a.m.

If you have ever been to Greenville, South Carolina you know that it is a magnificent place to visit. They spend alot of time and money to make it beautiful. The Reedy river which runs right through the middle of town and where they have built a gorgeous park along the big water fall called appropriately enough Falls Park. It was a wonderful place for our morning stroll.

We had drummers and maracas, tambourines all courtesy of the young kids that were walking. They had face paintings and cool balloon creation like dogs, swords and such.

You could feel the electricity as the opening ceremonies succeeded in getting everyone pumped up and ready to go. There were lots and lots of sponsors there handing out little freebies. It was a great time for one and all.

Our walk consisted of 2.25 miles in the center of Greenville and then right through the middle of Falls Park. It started and ended at Fluor Field which is the home of the Greenville Drive the local minor league baseball team.

I am so proud that we completed all we set out to do. We were $135 short of our goal this year but we will be stronger and better prepared next year. So no more jumping in lakes, begging online for dollars or walking…until next year so be prepared.

I would love to take this time to thank the following people who donated to The Diary of an Alzheimer’s team! Here are their names and a link to their wonderful websites, if they have one. Several I was unsure as to whether they had one or not. If I missed a link please let me know and I would love to add it immediately. Go check them out if you haven’t already. I am positive that you will love them as much as I do!

It is great that the event was such a success. I love events like this because they do so much to raise awareness. It also helps to bring families together that are going through the same things allowing them to form better support systems.
